Ideas for new niche header images

When creating the stock header images for v2.0, I tried to make headers that would appeal to a lot of people and not be too niche specific. I’m going to start creating some new headers that could be used with theme, but make them very niche specific. So if you have a niche that you’d like to see a header for, just leave me a comment and I’ll see what I can come up with.

The header images will be installed simply by uploading the file to the /images directory of your theme and putting the full image name in the “custom header image” blank in the theme options page.

I had some requests for features, and fixed an oversight on my part. The current download includes these changes:

  • Added the mysteriously missing wp_footer call in the footer. Obviously this hasn’t caused many problems to this point (or it would have been added already), but thanks to an email from a user, the the wp_footer tag is now in the theme.
  • Added tags on the single.php page. The theme installation by default now shows “Tagged with: tag 1, tag2, etc” below the content on each post page. You can turn this on or off in the options page.
  • Added categories on the single.php page. Under the “Tagged with” line you can now show “Filed under: category 1, category 2, etc.”  You can turn this on or off in the options page.
  • Added the ability to turn the “Like this post?” RSS subscription line on or off.

Version 2.0 is shaping up quite nicely thanks to some excellent user feedback!  Thanks guys (and gals)!

Do you prefer your blog navigation above the header or below?  The original download of v2.0 had an above the header navigation position only.  After getting some feedback that people liked the below the header position of the original version, I decided to let you choose where your navigation is positioned.

The latest version 2 download has a new feature built in where you can select from navigation above or below the header.

Affiliate links in default theme installation

I had a guy email me about all the affiliate links in the default theme and how “turned off” he was by them.  Here’s the deal. I needed content for the default installation, and since many of you use the theme for affiliate marketing, why not put some actually affiliate-type content into the default installation so you have something to work with?

You can easily edit the top feature links in the feature.php file, and the footer links in the footer.php file or just activate widgets and replace all the content. I guess I didn’t see the harm in including my own affiliate links with a free theme. If someone clicks and I make a little coin, who does that hurt? So for those of you who are “offended” by my inclusion of my own affiliate links in the sample blog content, I hope my appology is accepted.  Geesh.

Oh yeah, what about the cost of the theme license at $39 per site or $99 for unlimited sites? Too much? Personally I think it’s pretty cheap compared to commercial themes that are available.  Again, this theme isn’t intended to be a big money-maker for me, it’s just fun to see how people trick it out and use it.  But people are always asking me how much it would cost to remove the footer link, so I just put together the license price so people would know.  If it’s too much, let me know and if I get enough input I’ll revise it.

Here’s a clarification on the footer link.  It’s ONLY the one clear at the bottom of the theme. The actual link varies but it’s always either to one of my other sites or to JustGive.org which is a really cool way to feel better as a human being.  All the other links and graphics in the theme are just filler content, so feel free to remove them.

UPDATE: The current theme download should prevent this error.

I’ve had a couple of people tell me they are getting this error when installing version 2. It’s a PHP issue depending on the version you have installed on your hosting server.

If you have this install problem, I have a different theme version that I’m trying to get tested to work through this problem, so contact me and I’ll email you the new version to see if it works.  The theme works fine on all my hosting servers, so I need someone to be my guinea pig for testing this error.  I have a couple of possible fixes and it’s not a big deal, I just need someone to test it for me.  Thanks!
