A few questions about customization…

Hey Ryan,

Was almost finished writing a fairly long post, and had to leave for a few hours. Thought all would be okay, as I left the window open. Came back, and the window was gone. It appeared I was signed out, though the browser was still open at your website. Ugggh! Is that something that's automatically set up for this forum?

Well, I'll try to be a bit more succinct this time, and immediately submit my post.

The other day I came across your Flexibility2 theme, and have been customizing it ever since. There are a few questions I have about that process.

1.) First, is there a way to remove from both the “Home” and “About” page the sidebar with Categories, Archives, & Links, but have those 3 still show up on all the other pages?

2.) SOLVED! Next, can the height on the “Feature Section” be lengthened?

3.) Also related to the Feature section, can I set up a flash video with a player that streams from my webhost provider without adding a PLUGIN?

4.) And what about a graphical opt-in form in that same Feature section? Does it require a PLUGIN to get it to work?

5.) SOLVED! Regarding the title of the blog… I noticed whatever I write shows up in the “Title” field in the source code, which appears at the top of the browser window, so I put a lot of my main keywords in there. But then I noticed the “title” also shows up at the bottom in the footer where the copyright is:

“This blog copyright © 2009 “Long title goes here and runs on and on and on and on and on and on” (13 words in total, most with more than 5 characters)

How can I change that, but still keep the loooooong title I have?

6.) SOLVED! Not sure if the following will be needed on the blog I'm creating now, but thought I'd ask for future reference… can more tabs and their corresponding sections be added at the top, alongside “Home” and “About”?

Okay… cannot remember the remaining questions I had, but this should do for now. Will come back and ask the other ones as I think of them.

Thanks in advance for your answers. And thanks for a very flexible design. Love your work!

Kathleen

P.S. Do you have any video tutorials for Flexibility2 on your website? That would be helpful. Smile

P.P.S. Just noticed I wrote “widget” in questions 3 & 4… should have been “plugin.” Edited post with correct terms. I'm such a non-techie.

P.P.P.S. I'm down to THREE questions that need answers. They've been bolded. The other three (not bolded) have been solved.

Ok, to answer your questions:

1) You can, but you will need to edit your sidebar.php file with a conditional tag that tells it to not show the sub sidebars on the home page and the about page. It's kind of in depth, but you can read about conditional tags here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Con…..ional_Tags

3) You could embed a player in the feature.php file's HTML code. No plugin required.

4) No plugin needed for an opt-in form.  You could simply paste the opt-in code into the feature.php file and style it in the style.php file.  Flex2 doesn't use the style.css file.

Two questions– these may be WP issues, rather than issues with the Flexibility theme itself. Either way, your help is much appreciated.

Blog posts display properly on the home page, but when clicked don't lead anywhere, other than a 404 page (Ooooppps.. that page doesn't exist).

How do I adjust things so those post links, when clicked on, DO go to the post? (btw, the links in the Tag cloud work fine)

Thanks in advance for your help. As soon as I make some $ on my site, I am going to upgrade to FlexSqueeze. Flexibility is a great theme!
Cool

Hmmm.. can't tell much without seeing your site.  Send me the URL via a post or email and I'll take a look.

You have something odd going on because the footer isn't showing in your blog.  That's causing some layout issues.

To remove the home tab, you select 'no' to the Navigation Home link display option.

Yeah, I have no idea where the footer went– and the "car insurance" link in the lower right hand corner is NOT one that I added.

Thanks for looking at it.

The car insurance link is mine Laugh  It's only in the free version of the theme.

I fixed some of the problems I was having!

Now– how do I change the font color for the contents of comments? (not Posts– I figured that out already)

Thanks.

Also, how do I add AdSense ad blocks in the middle of the page, (for example, in between comments) instead of the sidebars?
