I finally figured out how to take out the gradient and now I want to change my backgraound to white in the top feature, but it won't save the changes. It just goes back to the previous color. I'm using the latest WordPress, Firefox and hosting with SEO Hosting (A division of Hostgator.)

I think I read somewhere about it having to possibly be a permissions problem. If so what do I change then to and what directory? Is there anything else I'm missing or maybe doing wrong?

Have you checked your error log?  You might find a clue in there as to the file that needs the permissions loosened.  Usually it's the style.css file.
