I have selected the appropraite options and created a new page for the blog.
For the special features option I have selected display on home page only.
It still displays on the blog page too. Is there a way to turn turn off the blog display?

This is kind of a weird thing, and I spent a ton of time trying to code it so the feature displayed properly when using a static home page. I never got it exactly correct, and so I guess you could call this a pseudo-bug in the theme. It's just the way WP uses the is_home or is_front tags.
